Horne can’t wait to take on Australia again

-

PETER Horne was desperate to get another shot at Australia as soon as Scotland’s agonising Rugby World Cup campaign ended last year.

The Glasgow centre gets his wish on Saturday when the Wallabies visit BT Murrayfield to play Scotland for the first time since their very controversial quarter-final victory at Twickenham just over 12 months ago.

Horne darted over the line to give Scotland a shock first-half lead in the game and Scotland led again after the interval until an extremely controversial 79th-minute penalty allowed Bernard Foley to kick Australia into a 35-34 lead and a place in the last four.

Scotland’s sense of injustice was further fuelled by World Rugby’s confession that referee Craig Joubert should not have awarded the penalty for offside.

However, Horne did not allow himself to be embittered by the crushing late blow.

Instead, he is using the experience of playing in front of 77,000 supporters and pushing Australia all the way to inspire him to further achievements for his country.

The 27-year-old said: “Games like that just make you hungrier for more.

“I was j ust desperate to get another crack, to get another game in a Scotland shirt and play in front of another big crowd like that and try and go a bit better.

“It just makes you hungrier and hungrier.

“They put away a good Wales side, so it will be a really good test.

“However, that’s why you play the game. You want to play against the best players in the world.”
