Plans lodged for church refurbishment
MENZIESHILL Church could be set to undergo a major refurbishment under plans submitted to Dundee City Council.
The proposed alterations to the building on Charleston Drive would be the first significant revamp of the church since it was built in the 1960s.
Exterior improvements include the installation of triple-glazed windows and doors, the renewal of flat roofs on the church buildings where required and new cladding on exterior walls.
Inside, a full rewiring of the church’s electrical system is planned, alongside the installation of new safety measures, including a fire alarm system and emergency lighting. New LED lighting would also be fitted throughout the building.
The renovations, if approved, are intended to make the church safer, more environmentally friendly and more visually appealing to the community.
The plans were submitted by Arbroath architect Michael O’Donnell on behalf of church minister Rev Robert Mallison.
In the application, Mr O’Donnell says: “This group of buildings was constructed in 1962 and today, largely the buildings contain original components and building elements.
“While the buildings have been generally well-maintained, many of these components and elements are at the end of their life cycle and require renewal.
“These investigations have resulted in a detailed refurbishment scheme being identified that deals with the key issues of the group of buildings.
“It is a general consensus that these repairs, renewals and refurbishments are essential to this facility moving forward and delivering the support and services to this community in the city.
“These upgrades have been approved by the local presbytery and by the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland.”
