Car tyres and door targeted by vandals

- BY CONNOR MCCANN

RESIDENTS of a Dundee close have hit out after several car tyres were slashed outside their building and the entry system was super glued.

The two separate incidents took place on the city’s Watson Street and Eden Street.

Police said the tyres of five vehicles were targeted in the vandalism spree and that an investigation had been launched.

Dale White, 26, who lives in Watson Street, said: “My partner went out on Sunday morning and that’s when we first noticed all the damage.

“Thankfully, we don’t own a car or it would have been even worse for us.

“The buzzer system was super glued on the Friday and it was pretty awful for deliveries.

“We had a Christmas tree that was being delivered over the weekend but luckily the delivery driver had our number so we could let him in.

“The entrance is open all the time just now. Most of the cars targeted were all outside this building, which is pretty concerning.”

Alistair West, 43, who also lives in the area, said: “It’s a very unusual thing to happen.

“I saw that tyres on a number of cars were slashed.

“Then I finally noticed just how many tyres had been slashed in close proximity to each other.

“Yesterday, I saw two guys at their cars blowing up their tyres in Eden Street.”

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said: “This is really concerning for neighbours living in this area.

“My car was one of the cars targeted on Saturday night. It is not ideal — especially with Christmas being so close.”

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Police Scotland is appealing for information after five cars were vandalised in Watson Street and Eden Street overnight between Saturday and Sunday.

“A silver Audi A4, a black Volkswagen Passat, a brown Nissan Qashqai, a black Suzuki Celerio and a blue Vauxhall Astra were all found with punctured tyres.”

The spokeswoman added that anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
