ROUND-UP Goals shared out as Grove crush Granite

AFTER a full National League schedule on Saturday, there were 28 cup and plate quarter-final games on Sunday.

In the Men’s Scottish Cup, one l ocal team survived, Grove-Menzieshil­l winning 8-1 over Granite City Wanderers. Six players shared the ’ Hill goals, Jamie Golden and Ciaran Crawford netting two each.

Dundee Wanderers lost 6-2 to Edinburgh University with most of the damage being in the last 10 minutes. Wanderers scorers were Ross Glashan and Tom Cole.

Grange had an 11-0 win over Clydesdale. Biggest score of the day was Kelburne’s 20-0 win over Monarchs. Special mention goes to Monarchs keeper who had a series of fine saves against the National League One titleholde­rs.

In the Ladies Scottish Cup, Sam Sangster and Ami Snelle scored for DMJV Dundee Wanderers in a 2-1 win over Kelburne Bromac.

Grove’s scorers were Sarah Jamieson and Jenny Walls for a 2-1 win over Western Wildcats. Clydesdale had a 5-1 win over Grange and it was Edinburgh University 7 Hillhead 0

Other scores i nvolving Midland teams i ncluded Wanderers II walking over against Falkirk and Perthshire II losing 5-2 to Highland II in the Men’s District Plate.

In the Men’s Reserve Cup, Clydesdale III had a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Wanderers III after a 2-2 draw.

Women’s Scottish Plate — Aberdeen University 4 Grove II 0 and Dundee University 5 Merlin Gordonians 3.

Women’s District Cup — Edinburgh University IV 8 Madras FP 9 after a penalty shootout. Orkney had a 5-0 win over Highland I and Shetland beat East Kilbride I 4-1.

National League Men’s Division One on Saturday saw Grove Menzieshil­l, without a game, slip to fourth while there were wins for the top two, Grange by 4-2 over Edinburgh University and Kelburne’s 3-0 win over Uddingston.

Hillhead move to third following a 5-1 win over Gordonians and Western Wildcats had only their second win, 4-2 over Watsonians.

In Division Two, secondplac­ed St Andrews University had a 9-1 win over Falkirk and Dundee University l ost to leaders Inverleith 10-0.

Dundee Wanderers had a 5-1 win over Glasgow University with goals by Tom Cole, James Ross, Bobby Ralph, Greig Jamieson and Fergus Sandison. There was another good display by keeper Connor Downes. Wanderers share fourth place with Dunfermlin­e.

Perthshire goals were by Adam Czub in a 2-2 draw against Erskine SM in Division Three where Monarchs had a 4-1 win over Highland. This has the two Midlands teams fourth and fifth in the table.

Menzieshil­l II now sit in the anticipate­d top place by two points in the Regional Division Two following a 7-0 win over Rottenrow II on Saturday. They have a game in hand.

On Saturday in the Ladies National League Division One, a goal by Jenny Walls, a Dollar Academy pupil, gave GroveMenzi­eshill a 1-0 win over Dundee Wanderers.

A 5-0 win for MCC Western over Kelburne has MCC Western and Grove sharing top place five points ahead of Edinburgh University who had an 8-0 win over Hillhead. Erskine SM l ost 3-2 to to Watsonians while Western Wildcats had a 10-0 win over CALA.

Scores i n Division Two included Gordonians 4 Dundee University 1 on Wednesday and, on Saturday, Dundee University 1 Granite City 2 while St Andrews University lost 2-1 to Grange.

Regional division scores included Kinross 2 CALA II 4 and St Andrews University II 1 Watsonians II 9.

There is a full programme for both men’s and women’s teams in the Midland Leagues with the Men’s Division Two as usual on Sunday.
