Winter wonder at Wellgate
THE Wellgate was today transformed into a Winter Wonderland with snow, reindeer and a special visit from Santa.
The shopping centre was welcoming everything Christmas, with a visit from reindeer Jingle and Bell from 2pm until 5pm outside the glass lift on level 3.
There was also lots of family-friendly and seasonal activities lined up for the afternoon.
Organisers said a “notto-be-missed” mini show from Funbox was arranged for 2.30pm until 3pm and the ever-popular Santa’s Grotto was opening at 3pm. There was also a Christmas karaoke f or music lovers from 3.15pm until 4pm, with balloons and antlers to take home, and selfie fun with a festive photo frame.
Other entertainment included some local street-dancing, traditional carol-singing from Penny Stephen, music from Tay FM breakfast show’s Erin Linton and face painting.
Wellgate i s also t he main sponsor of Mission Christmas, which was being launched at 4pm.
Shahid Ramzan is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence after being found guilty of hiding criminal property worth more than £20 million in 2012.
It is understood he is currently at Castle Huntly, having also served part of his sentence at Shotts Prison in Lanarkshire.
Ramzan was also jailed for cheating the taxman out of more than £5 million.
Today, the Tele can reveal that he was sequestrated at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.
A spokesman for the court confirmed that the sequestration action was raised by H & H Properties of Dundee.
She added: “This action was raised by Baillies Solicitors of Dundee on behalf of H & H Properties.
“The sequestration was granted at Hamilton on November 14.”
The property development company, which is based in Blackness Road, declined to comment when approached by the Tele.
A spokesman for the Accountant in Bankruptcy (AIB) confirmed that Mr Ramzan was sequestrated but could give no further details.
Ramzan appealed against he conviction but it was rejected at the Court of Appeal in Edinburgh in January last year.
Lawyers acting for Ramzan said mistakes had been made during the judge’s final speech to the jury during his original trial which dealt with a complex series of financial transactions. However, judges ruled the trial judge had not misdirected the jury and Ramzan’s conviction was safe.
