Pedestrian dies in hospital after being hit by bus

-

A WOMAN has died in hospital after being hit by a bus on a Dundee street.

The female pedestrian suffered a head injury when she was involved in a collision with an Xplore Dundee service on Johnston Avenue at about 11am yesterday.

But a spokesman f or Police Scotland confirmed today that the woman had died in hospital last night from her injuries.

The woman has not yet been named and her age has not been released.

An Xplore Dundee spokeswoman said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who has lost her life in this incident.

“We’re offering our support to them and to the driver involved.

“We are working closely with the police as they continue their investigation.”

Beth Reid, a volunteer for the Coldside Regeneration Forum — which covers areas including Johnston Avenue — said she was shocked to hear that the woman had lost her life.

She said: “That’s absolutely terrible. There are not normally buses going down that way but they’ve been diverted.

“People do need to be more careful — there are buses all over the place in Johnston Avenue.

“But it’s a shock to hear that the lady died.

“I hadn’t heard about it before — it’s very sad news. I would like to pass on my condolences.”

Johnston Avenue, at its junction with Strathmore Avenue, was closed until about 4pm while police investigated the incident.

Officers were seen speaking to Xplore staff, businesses and eyewitnesses.

An area in front of the double-decker bus was cordoned off with police tape and traffic cones.
