Gnome and away!

Anger after Halloween item stolen from family

- BY ADAM HILL

A DUNDEE family say there is gnome place like home after “yobs” made off with one of their customised demon figurines.

Nybee Carter, 31, and her husband Craig, 32, had decided to customise the gnomes for Halloween.

After their five kids grew fond of them, they decided to keep the gnomes as a fixture in the garden of their Liff Terrace home.

However, Nybee found that the thieves had made off with one of her three evil gnomes.

She said: “I am really annoyed about it because they have sat out there for nearly three years and no one has touched them.

“We have got a lot of yobs around here so I am thinking that it could have been them.

“That being said, I have never seen them looking at them or anything like that.

“We had bought the gnomes and then around Halloween we decided to do things properly and filled in their eyes with a black Sharpie and acidwashed them so they were really pale.

“It was brilliant — everyone was terrified of them.

“There were a couple of first-time trick-or-treaters and they were really scared of them.

“It got to the stage where we were having to go out and chase guisers with sweets because they wouldn’t come in because of them!

“My husband and I had been kidding around with them since, moving them around to give each other a fright.

“I came out and the little one was gone. They were like a family so it is like the two have lost their daughter.

“I immediately thought it was my husband taking the mick but he had no idea where they were.”

In a twisted turn, the perpetrators left behind one of the gnome’s hands.

Nybee said that the family had taken to the streets around the house but couldn’t find any trace.

She added: “We couldn’t even find her smashed up anywhere. She has completely disappeared.

“They took the smallest one. I think it is because they look like they are heavy but they don’t weigh much.

“I really hope we can get it back because the kids loved her.

“It is the fact that effort went in to customising them and someone has just come along and taken it that annoys me the most.”
