100 kids gatecrash house party in city

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

MORE than 100 kids are thought to have gatecrashed a Dundee house party — after the event went viral through social media.

Residents living on a quiet residential street described seeing dozens of young people descend on a property.

Concerned neighbours in Ballumbie’s Oak Loan watched on as kids were seen being sick in the garden, jumping on beds inside the house and damaging household goods such as lampshades.

One eyewitness told the Tele they felt sorry for the owner, who is believed to have left the property earlier in the evening.

Police later swarmed on the property to disperse the rowdy kids.

One onlooker said the situation “escalated quickly” through social media.

The man said: “There seemed to be a lot of teenagers using mobile phones. I think they were notifying others on social media and it must have gone viral. “Within a 15-minute period, more and more people were arriving.

“There were taxis and private cars arriving i n quick succession.

“I felt sorry for the owner, the house was heaving — every room looked full.

“They were out in the street and there were more than 100 folk there at least.

“My concern was the house was going to get wrecked. There were kids jumping on beds and lampshades were getting smashed.

“At one point there were at least 12 men, who were heading towards their twenties, piling into the property.”

The man said people were trying to help clean up in the aftermath.

One resident said the police arrived just in time. He said: “Two police cars and two police vans arrived around 8.30pm.

“I think they arrived just before it got too out of hand.

“We were looking out of the window. I was watching X Factor at the time and it was certainly better than watching Honey G.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland attended at Oak Loan, Dundee, on Saturday after reports of a disturbance involving a large group of youths. Officers ensured the youths left the scene safely and there was no further police action.”

The homeowner declined to comment about the incident.
