Scots’ Pride event to help Xmas appeal

-

FROM haggis hurling to hair care, there are a host of activities on offer at the Wellgate shopping centre on Saturday, courtesy of D&A College students.

As part of their course, an all-girl team of HND events management students have planned and organised a fun-filled festive event entitled Scots’ Pride.

Emma Cook, Katherine Laird, Chloe Robinson and Amy Mason will be assessed on the success of their innovative event, so they have pulled out all the stops to ensure it is a success.

Scots’ Pride not only aims to offer fun for all ages but is supporting Mission Christmas, the annual festive appeal run by charity Cash for Kids.

As well as setting up cash collection points throughout the shopping centre, the students persuaded four local companies to take stalls for the day and make a donation to the charity for the privilege.

The McKenzie Beard Company; Angelica Laird, a Dundee-based family confectionary firm; Eeksie Peeksie from Arbroath which specialises in handpainted gifts; and Alone Soap of Dundee which produces hand-made soaps, all signed up to support the event.

In line with the Scots Pride theme, visitors will be given the chance to soak a Scotsman and hurl a haggis – vegetarians should have no fear as a cuddly haggis is employed for the hurling!

The students have also roped in classmate Coralea McKay who will be entertaining shoppers with her fiddle playing, while the Strathmore Ceilidh Band is also performing.

James Liandu will be playing his acoustic guitar, while members of the Carr Highland Dancers and students from the Launch Pad Studio will also be performing.

Scots’ Pride runs from 11am-3pm.
