Teams unite to keep Riverside Nature Park tidy

-

RIVERSIDE Nature Park has been boosted by efforts to clean up Invergowrie Bay.

The bay has been l eft looking neglected in recent times due to items washing up on its shores.

However, a combined effor t by Friends of Riverside Nature Park, Dundee City Council and Dundee Airport has led to old tyres, shopping trolleys and discarded wheelie bins being disposed of.

The bay is overlooked by a bird hide at the nature park and provides food and roosting conditions f or migrating birds. It’s enjoyed by visitors from across Scotland, but its condition had been spoiling the view and its reputation as a tourist attraction.

The airport fire service team regularly uses the bay for training and has been collecting rubbish swept into the area on the tide.

West End councillor Fraser Macpherson said: “We’re very grateful to the fire team at the airport for using its all-terrain vehicle to help keep the area clear of debris.

“The Friends of Riverside Nature Park also organise litter-picks in the nature park and all this helps to keep the area beautiful. It is a good example of groups coming together to help solve a problem.”

The council has also been promoting the Take Pride in your City campaign, which encourages residents to help make a difference in their own neighbourhoods, parks and open spaces.
