Hockey playing couple intend to stick together!

He’s not the sort of person to chase someone around a nightclub with romantic intent.

No, that would be more Laura McKelvie’s style – she’s bold and fiery and she was always going to get her man.

The delightful couple have just tied the knot in beautifully traditional style — but they first met thanks to Dundee Wanderers Hockey Club.

Both keen hockey players, they became sporting acquaintances and friends to begin with.

“I liked him because he seemed so quiet and was a really genuine guy,” recalled Laura, 31, office manager for a legal firm.

“We kind of gravitated together because we’d train on the same days and have matches at the weekend so we’d always be seeing each other.

“There’s also a social side to the club and that brought us together too.

“It has been said that on one of those nights I chased him around Fat Sam’s but my official position on that is ‘no comment’!”

The pair began dating with trips to Alton Towers and Tenerife amongst their memories.

Euan, 27, an electrical estimator, always knew that Laura was the one, but he bided his time.

“I knew she was the woman I wanted to marry but I wasn’t going to propose until we had our own home,” he said.

The relationship flourished and just about a year ago the couple bought their first house together — so it was time for the proposal.

“We went to Arran in July last year,” said Laura.

“That was where Euan would go for family holidays when he was little, a place he has happy memories of.

“Unknown to me he was plucking up the courage to actually propose.

“That proved difficult for Euan as I wouldn’t give him a minute!

“Then on our last morning, just before we got the ferry home, he managed to get my full attention and proposed and of course I said ‘yes’.”

The wedding itself took place at Balgay Church with a reception at the Invercarse attended by 170 family and friends from near and far.

Laura wore a show-stopping dress from Panache in Carnoustie, while Euan was attired in Highland dress of grey granite tartan.

The bride was given away by her dad, Gordon, and maid of honour was Laura’s sister, Lynne.

Her other attendants were Euan’s nieces, sisters Robyn and Erynn Smith, who were bridesmaid and flower girl respectively.

The two best men were Euan’s hockey team-mates Bobby Ralph and Frank Mulgrew.

Special mention should be made of Laura’s grandad, Gordon McKelvie Sr from Charleston, who is 87 years old and was the smartest-dressed man at the wedding!

A splendid night was enjoyed by all, after which the couple had a honeymoon trip to Cameron House at Loch Lomond.
