Vikki decides to retire from international duty

-

WITH 206 Scottish Caps, and 14 for GB, Vikki Bunce has announced her retirement from international hockey.

However, she intends to continue to play and coach for Dundee Wanderers.

One of Scotland’s most exciting players since she burst onto the scene, Vikki has played in three Commonwealth Games, two World Cups (outdoor 2002 and indoor 2007), won gold in the 2011 EuroHockey Nations Championship II, bronze in Champions Challenge I in 2011 and was captain of the women’s national team.

Vikki attended Blackness Primary School, Harris Academy, Dundee College of education and University of Abertay.

Vikki has played for Bonagrass Grove and Dundee Wanderers, where she has been player/coach since 2007.

At national level, she was called up for the U/16s and played in a European competition in Germany.

That was followed by two years in the U/18 squad before progressing to the U/21s. Her first senior cap came in 2001. On the Indoor scene, Vikki gained a substantial number of caps plus quite a few goals.

Highlights in her career include the Commonwealth games in Glasgow and walking out for the opening ceremony, captaining Scotland Indoor and, at club level, winning the Indoor National League with both Bonagrass and Wanderers.

When asked what advice she would offer to young players, she said: “Don’t see things as sacrifices, its all about choices.

“Dream big and never let anyone tell you that ‘you can’t’. If they do, prove them wrong.”
