Typhoons blown out by Tigers
VISITING Moray Typhoons were blown away 8-1 by a rampant Dundee Tigers.
Tigers dominated the game from the first drop of the puck as the shortbenched visitors faced a struggle to adjust to the large Dundee ice pad.
Andrew Henderson, Paul Guilcher and Mark McLeod sparked the Tigers attack in the first period with a goal apiece.
Grant Reekie, Stuart Barnett, Ross Bree and a second from Guilcher saw the hosts take a sevengoal advantage into the final session.
Ritchie Fox scored Tigers’ only goal of the final period before a speculative shot by Stuart Ogg took a deflection into the net for Typhoons’ only score with less than four minutes to go.
Tigers assistant manager John Robb said: “This was eight going on 18 for us.
“In the first two periods we played a structured but flowing game and well deserved the lead we had.
“In fact it probably should have been more.
“In the third period, however, we l ost our shape and went goal chasing with little success.
“Typhoons didn’t give up and it wasn’t a surprise when they scored — but there was no real danger of a comeback.”
Elsewhere, Dundee Stars U/12s bowed out of the Scottish Cup after a 19-2 away defeat to Kilmarnock.
Stars goals came from Darren Donaldson and Gary Kelly Jun.
The U/20s home league encounter against Fife Falcons went the visitors’ way by 10-2.
Kris Inglis and Andrew Pankhurst netted for the Taysiders, with U/20 newcomer Brad Petrie earning a Man of the Match award.
Stars U/10s returned from Lanarkshire with a 10-4 win in their friendly against Lightning.
