Woman, 20, hospitalised after smash in Dundee

A DUNDEE woman was hospitalised after being “rear-ended” in a hit-andrun incident while driving.

Rebecca Lyon had stopped on the city’s Berwick Drive to allow oncoming traffic past when she was smashed into from behind by another car.

The 20-year-old today told the Tele that the driver of the car — a black Renault Megane — looked straight at her before driving from the scene of the collision.

Rebecca, who lives in the Ballumbie area of the city, had to attend A&E where she was diagnosed with “severe whiplash”, forcing her to stay off work from her job as a healthcare assistant in the neurosurgery ward at Ninewells Hospital.

She said: “The driver came out of nowhere and looked right at me and drove away.

“After it happened, I was shaking — it was terrifying.

“People came out of their houses and helped me out.

“I tried to phone my mum but I couldn’t even hold my phone, so a woman that had come out after seeing what happened had to help me do it.

“The left side of my neck is in agony going right down to my shoulder. I can’t move my neck at all — it is really painful.

“I work 12-hour shifts, so I can’t really go to work because of the pain.

“The police came round the corner a wee while after it happened and stopped.

“They took statements from me and all the witnesses.

“They said that they will keep me posted if they manage to find the person who did it.”

Rebecca said that she managed to remember part of the registration plate of the other motorist but didn’t catch the rest.

She hopes that the person is caught, adding that she “wants an apology” and reimbursed for the damage to her car.

She said: “I would have felt a lot better if the driver had bothered to stop and help. I can’t believe that the person just drove away.

“It is just a total nightmare. I will have to pay for the damage to the car or my insurance premiums will be more expensive if I claim for the repairs.”

Police Scotland confirmed that they attended a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday and said one of the vehicles wasn’t traced.
