Stars looking to keep their recent run going

-

DUNDEE CCS Stars have just one fixture this weekend. It sees Gardiner Conference leaders Manchester Storm come to Dundee Ice Arena on Sunday (6.30).

Storm are first in the Conference with 12 points from 12 games, with Stars fourth place with six points but with six games in hand on their opponents.

Manchester recorded a 3-0 home win over Fife Flyers last weekend while Stars go into the game on the back of three three-point weekends that have seen them take points from the teams occupying the top-three place in the Elite League standings.

Stars coach Marc LeFebvre gave his charges a few days off in the early part of the week to let them recharge their batteries.

He said: “When the fixtures came out in July, we had a look at the schedule and decided we needed to give the players a break at certain times.

“They don’t get time off at Christmas and, with only one game this weekend, I felt it was a good chance to let them have time off. They didn’t get a break last season and I think it affected our play.

“We have taken nine points from 12 from our last six games and we intend to keep that run going.

“The players were back in yesterday and that gives us three days of practice before the game on Sunday.

“We have only one game to focus on this week and we will be giving it our full attention.”

Stars are looking at the fitness of Craig Cescon ahead of the game.

Meanwhile, Fife Flyers will be looking to bounce back from their defeat against Manchester Storm last Sunday when they come up against Braehead Clan in Kirkcaldy tomorrow (7.15 pm).

On Sunday, Flyers travel to Nottingham to face a Panthers team who have been inconsistent so far this season.

Forward Shayne Stockton looks likely to miss this weekend’s games due to injury. However, Flyers hope to have Rik Jackman back on duty for the weekend fixtures.
