Winning run kept despite hiccup

THE Dundee men’s volleyball team went to South Queensferr­y for their League One game against City of Edinburgh ll with hopes of keeping their winning momentum.

Without power hitters Mike Coward and Louis Groshenry there was some changes to the Dundee line-up.

The changes were an instant hit as they raced to a 14-7 lead with Kevin Chisholm and Leo Maugeri prominent, scoring seven points between them.

They then added another four points to lead 18-8 before Barry Millar scored three service aces to take the score to 23-9. Chisholm then hit two winners to win the set 25-11.

After a slow start to the second set, Dundee continued to have control.

Edinburgh fought back and levelled the score at 18-18 with some determined defence and off-speed hitting.

They scored a service ace to lead 20-18. Dundee levelled at 20-20 but the home side held set point at 24-21.

Chisholm came to the rescue again winning the side out then two points on counter-attack. The visitors won the set 26-24 for a 2-0 lead.

In the third set, Dundee’s attack didn’t have to win many points as the home side racked up the errors, gifting 14 points. However, Edinburgh won the set 25-23.

Coach John Scrimgeour restored his starting line-up for the fourth set but the home side managed to win it 25-20.

However, Dundee won the deciding set 15-7. The 3-2 win lifts Dundee into third place.

They face a tough game tomorrow in Craigie High School (10am) when table toppers Su Ragazzi ll are the visitors.

Dundee Ladies take on Edinburgh University ll (noon) then NUVOC ll (2pm).
