Frost takes toll on Tayside junior card

- BY JUNICUS

ALTHOUGH temperatures rose on Saturday, unfortunately it came too late to save the junior fixtures and, for the second week running, there was a complete wipeout of matches in the Tayside area.

Some clubs did manage to fix up friendlies on all-weather surfaces, however, with Lochee United and Harp meeting each other at DISC.

The 7-3 result in the Bluebells’ favour was academic with both sides making numerous changes during the 90 minutes to give all their players some game time.

Coupar Angus travelled to Crieff where they met amateur side ASC.

First-half goals from from Alex Gibb and Aaron Ogilvie gave the Foxhall Park club a 2-0 victory.

Meanwhile Lochee United may not have been seeing much action on the pitch recently but, behind the scenes, the club has been busy promoting their brick on the wall project.

They had set a deadline of Christmas to sell the bricks but it has proved so successful they will beat that target easily and have only a few still to sell.

The Lochee club had two interesting visitors last week when Alan Snee and Dave Brannan, who were the club’s first ever ball boys, popped into Thomson Park.

They both lived in the Dryburgh area and their respective families were followers of the side for many years, with Alan’s dad, Willie, a former committee member.

The Snee family purchased a brick in recognition of Willie’s service to the club.
