Forrest: I want more trophies
JAMES Forrest wants to keep the silverware coming after helping Celtic win their 100th major trophy.
The winger scored Celtic’s second goal in a 3-0 Betfred Cup Final victory over Aberdeen at Hampden to continue his resurgence in f orm under Brendan Rodgers.
Forrest l ooked set to leave Celtic after losing his place in the latter half of last season under Ronny Deila, who claimed t he winger had rejected a new contract.
But the Scotland international soon signed an extended deal after regaining his place under Rodgers.
After his Man-of-theMatch performance i n Glasgow, Forrest said: “I never, ever wanted to leave. I got my chance to come out and say that when I did.
“I j ust want t o keep playing with this club. It’s a massive club and you win trophies, and I just want to keep doing that.
“It’s been a great start to get the first medal in late November.
“We just need to keep going and keep doing what we are doing and keep pushing on.
“You remember finals, so it’s great to score and be part of t his t op-quality team.”
Aberdeen failed to reach their potential and their second-half rally ended when Moussa Dembele tucked away a penalty after Forrest had been tripped by Anthony O’Connor.
But Derek McInnes has backed his players t o bounce back from their disappointment.
“I am here to support my players,” he said. “You are never quite sure how players react. But this isn’t an end-of-season defeat, we have so much more to play for and so much more I expect from my team as well.
“H o p e f u l ly, w e h av e better days going forward and I firmly believe that.”
