Dance students putting on a show at The Space
THE Space at Dundee and Angus College’s Kingsway campus is the venue for 21st Century Choreography tonight and tomorrow.
The production, which provides the audience with an eclectic mix of music and movement, allows students on the BA (hons) contemporary dance programme the chance to choreograph pieces for their colleagues while giving them the opportunity to delve deeply into their own creativity.
The group of students have each produced a piece danced by their classmates, either a solo, duet or trio.
With a total of 15 different dances being performed the students have explored a myriad of themes — from alcoholism and erotomania (sometimes confused with obsessive love) to the effects of social media and the various symbols of the chakras of oriental religions.
The students have also used a selection of music ranging from Swedish supergroup Abba to a range of freelance composers.
They have also utilised the talents of Steven Urquhart, musical technician at The Space, who has composed soundscapes along with some of the choreography.
One innovation to this year’s production is that of Will Hodson, who has choreographed a piece which encompasses the use of an action-cam.
The piece will actually take place in another part of The Space while the audience view choreography on a screen alongside a live performance.
Tickets (£3) are available at the door from 6.30pm each evening or by emailing d.ford@dundeeandangus.ac.uk.
Curtain-up tonight and tomorrow is at 7.30pm.
