Sports hub approved
New facility will be home to community areas and offices
Dundee East Community Sports Club (DECSC) has been granted permission to begin work on its new twostorey facility at Whitton Park.
DECSC is made up of Broughty Athletic Football Club, Broughty United Amateur Football Club, Broughty United Youth Football Club and Douglas Lads.
Ronnie McKenzie, president of the Broughty Athletic Football Club, said the nod from council planners for the new hub was great news for the community.
He said: “What’s most pleasing about this is that the community will benefit from this the most.
“The facilities are going to be so great and will be a huge improvement on what is currently there.”
Included in the blueprint are changing rooms, a coffee shop, community spaces and offices.
The club believes the project could create at least 20 local jobs.
It is hoped that the new sports and community complex will offer increased opportunities for more people to take part in sport and wider community projects for all generations.
Ronnie added that he’s enthusiastic about the boost this complex could have on grassroots football.
He said: “The new club buildings will offer shelter to 200 or 300 spectators which we can’t currently provide.
“That could see more people come along more regularly, as well as boost participation. I think that will improve everything.
“We will have a stadium and the all-weather aspects are very important to be able to offer services all year round. And for the youth groups there will be great facilities too.”
PLANS for a sports facility and community hub have been approved by Dundee City Council.
