Hamilton treble helps tame threat from Wild

DUNDEE Comets were in fine form at Dundee Ice Arena when the North Ayr Wild came calling in an SNL encounter.

After only two minutes of play Allan Hamilton scored his first of the evening after combining with Lewis Gold and Comets latest addition, John Dolan. It wasn’t long before the same trio put the Dundee side two up and looking very comfortable.

A powerplay goal from Jamie Whitelaw assisted by John Gordon and Josh Leslie put the Comets three-up and firmly in the driving seat. Further markers from Kris Phillips and Bill Baxter finished the first period 5-0 in favour of the east-coast outfit.

Period No 2 was much the same with three further counters making it 8-0 before the Wild finally got their first marker on the board coming from Michael Dobson.

Comets responded to this with two goals from Lewis Gold assisted by Dolan and Hamilton. However a defensive error from Dundee let Scott Wright score unassisted.

Hamilton secured his hat-trick and Man-of-the-Match award with five minutes left in the game after Dolan’s composure let Gold and Hamilton get the space needed to make it 10. Ross Johnston completed the scoring for Comets before North Ayr forward Dobson got his second and Ayrshire’s third to close the match down.

Comets coaching staff said: “We’re content with our performance tonight but we also realise we cannot take our foot off the gas and let teams get even the slightest hope of getting back into a game when we’re so far in front. All our lines worked well tonight and the experience of John Dolan shone through with his calmness and ability to deliver scoring chances for our team.”

Comets host local rivals Dundee Tigers on Saturday (f/o 7.30pm).
