Young Stars move into joint second

-

STARS U/16s picked up two valuable points to move into joint second place in the league after an 8-1 win at home against Murrayfield.

Goals from Bernard Brown, Dylan Denham and Bailey Page put Dundee 3-0 up at the end of the first period.

Jack Terroni made it 4-0 but the visitors pulled one back when they finally put one past netminder Dale Shearer. Stars then pulled ahead through Brown, Drew Rumgay and Owen Kinmond to end t he middle stanza 7-1.

Leo Hendry took over in the net to shutout Edinburgh in the final period, and Jonathan McBean grabbed the only goal minutes before the buzzer.

Man of the Match went to centre Bailey Page.

Manager Andy Crumley said: “I am extremely proud of the effort these guys put in this week.

“Each of them played a part in this win and I look forward to watching them improve as the season goes on.”

Elsewhere, Stars U/14 development squad travelled to Dumfries but slipped to a late 4-3 loss.

The friendly gave some new players the chance to take part in a competitive game and saw usual goalie Liam Griffin play outfield for a change.

With Solway not icing a team in the league this year due to a shortage of players, Gary Kelly and Rio Page guested for the home team.

This also gave some of the U/12s a chance to showcase themselves and Steve Innis, Cadeyrn Harris, Zac Simpson, CJ Ward and Danny Coulson slotted i n nicely with regulars such as Sonny Simpson.

Stars goals came from twins Dawson and Austin Osborn and Sam Knight and MOTM went to netminder Harry Elder.

Meanwhile, at the DIA, Stars U/10s held another successful monthly crossice tournament.

Used as a development platform, all the younger kids had a great time and enjoyed getting involved against teams from Moray, Ayrshire, Fife and Edinburgh.
