Come on boys — let’s have a title race

-

THE top-flight will be a procession this season — and maybe a few more beyond — so come on United and Hibs, let’s have a proper ding-dong title battle.

The two teams meet on Friday, as you know of course, in what promises to be a cracking night of football at Tannadice.

The Hibees and the Tangerines have been the best sides by a long way in the Championship so far this season, proved by the five-point gap to the sides below.

That gap will no doubt get bigger as the teams below take points off each other.

I’m just hoping both teams take the title race right to the wire because at the top end of the game in this country, you’re lucky to get Celtic at 1/200-on at the bookies to lift the Premiership trophy.

They’re the best and that deserves a league win but it’s just boring, boring, boring for a neutral like me.

Looking at the here and now, though, it’s the Edinburgh side who are in the box seat in the Championship.

Win and they have a nice cushion — one that’ll be tough for United to claw back — and even a draw might see them head home happy, having kept their lead of three points at the top.

The Tangerines, though, will fancy their chances against anyone at home, especially with the form they’re in at the moment.

Six wins out of eight is top stuff at any level of football and confidence will be through the roof at Tannadice.

Ray McKinnon’s side have matchwinners all around the pitch and they’ll be looking to impose themselves on the contest rather than worry about the opposition.

And that should provide plenty of exciting attacking action.

Tony Andreu is better than the Championship — I said that when he was at Hamilton a few years back — and Mark Durnan was the best defender at this level when United signed him.

Simon Murray is a threat and Scott Fraser is probably, along with Jason Cummings — who can’t get a start for Hibs right now which tells you United’s defence need to be right on their game — the top young player in the division.

After all this, it better not turn out to be a drab 0-0.
