‘Hibees have a point to prove’

-

DARREN McGregor says Hibs will have a point to prove when they travel to face Dundee United on Friday night.

The 31-year-old former Rangers defender reckons his team should have beaten t he Tangerines when the pair drew 1-1 at Easter Road.

And McGregor feels there would be no better time to set t he record straight when the pair go head-tohead i n front of a live television audience at Tannadice later this week.

He said: “For me, it’s a bit rich sitting here just now saying I want this or that when the season and the job is only a quarter done. But this game is a big one and that’s what you are in football for.

“At the start of the season people would probably have pinpointed ourselves and United as being the ones contesting for the league.

“Last time at our place it was 1-1 and we felt we should have won it. We have a point to prove.”

Hibs currently hold a three-point gap over the Ta n g e r i n e s bu t , w h i l e accepting there is still a long way to go, McGregor knows just how pivotal a win over Ray McKinnon’s men would be.

“The league won’t be won in December but if we get that six-point gap then there is a mentality there to maintain it and kick on from there.

“And a win at Tannadice would cer tainly set a benchmark.

“We are confident going into the game. We are on a good run of form and have a solid base.”

The Hibees have taken 14 points from the last 18 up for grabs with four clean sheets in that run.

However, United are in a rich vein of form themselves, unbeaten in their last 10 games, having won eight of them.
