McKinnon can lead Utd to victory against Hibs

- BY JAMES MASSON

FORMER Dundee United midfielder Ryan McCord reckons the Tangerines have the tools to beat Hibs tomorrow night.

And McCord, now plying his trade at Arbroath, feels in Ray McKinnon, United have one of the best young managers i n the business.

Although his mind is totally focused on the Red Lichties’ home game against Edinburgh City on Saturday, McCord admits he has more than a passing interest in tomorrow’s Tannadice clash.

He makes no bones about the fact he is a United fan, as are all his mates, and he’s also a big fan of their manager Ray McKinnon.

“I was at Raith last season and Ray was really brilliant with me. He was manager of Raith at the time and both Ray and his assistant, Laurie Ellis, left a good impression on me,” said McCord.

“They are a good management team and, hopefully, they will lead United back into the Ladbrokes Premiership.

“United are on a great unbeaten run and a win over Hibs will be a terrific boost.”

McCord knows the Easter Road side will provide a tough test but feels United have the ability to get three points.

“One of the things Ray has brought to United is his strong work ethic,” Ryan added.

“He has moulded the squad into a strong unit. I was delighted when he got the United job. He was a good player for the club and he’s also a fan. In fact, he’s the fan who ended up as the manager.

“He’s got a settled team and one that has a really good chance of being back in the top league next season. “Tomorrow’s game will be played in front of a big crowd and home advantage could prove vital for United.

“I know Tosher (Lewis Toshney) well and also Dicker (Paul Dixon) and Dillo (Sean Dillon) and they are integral parts of the United squad.

“They have a big role to play for the club but every player there is a main player.

“That goes for every game. Ray has United ticking over nicely as a team and whoever takes the field tomorrow will be a main player.”
