Atmosphere will be great says Hamish

- By GRAEME FINNAN

HAMISH McAlpine hopes Dundee United and Hibs shake off the shackles in tomorrow night’s Championship crunch.

Tangerines legend Hamish reckons an almost full house under the lights at Tannadice, plus the game being screened live on TV, will provide the perfect atmosphere for the division’s top two to have a right go at each other.

It’s a fixture he’s eagerly looking forward to and he is hoping it will be a throwback to some of the games he featured in during his 20 years at the club.

Hamish has been impressed by United this season but reckons goalmouth action has been in short supply, not just at Tannadice but across the country in general.

He said: “I think that’s down to the way the game is played nowadays with the ball being moved a lot from side to side.

“In my day, it tended to go from back to front much quicker and I think there was more goalmouth action.

“Hopefully, it will be a frantic game tomorrow with pressure from both sides. That’s when mistakes are made.

“The United support will be out in force and Hibs will have a large crowd, so it could be pushing towards a sellout and under the lights the atmosphere will be great.

“It would be great if United could play the way they did against Partick Thistle at home earlier in the season — they were brilliant that night.”

Hamish feels the clash is massive for both clubs but stresses there is still a long way to go.

“This is probably the biggest game of the season so far but I think every game is big for United and Hibs.

“Teams come and play United and it is like a cup-tie for them.

“Three points tomorrow would be huge but I don’t think it’s a must win. There is still a long way to go.

“If there were only five games left it might be crucial. But, at this stage, you know teams will drop points — that’s the sort of league it is.

“There is not a great deal between
