Councillor praises volunteers for Christmas efforts

-

THIS Christmas looks brighter than ever for one Glenrothes neighbourhood as plans continue ahead of the switch-on of the area’s first festive lights on Sunday at 3.45pm.

An afternoon of events is planned as Woodside gets ready to get into the festive spirit.

The area’s first community tree has been installed by volunteer group We R Woodside, outside the community hall on Woodside Way.

Councillor Ian Sloan praised the work of volunteers in making the event a reality but said finding funding for the tree had not been easy. He said: “We R Woodside has worked hard over the past few months to make all the arrangements to have the first community Christmas tree.

“Everything had to be done from scratch with a power supply provided from the Woodside Community Hall and a suitable base put in place for a large tree.

“A crowdfunding website was set up and funding has been granted by Fife Council’s Glenrothes area committee and from the lottery project in Auchmuty.

“Businesses have also contributed and the remaining shortfall will hopefully be donated on the day by local people.”

Mr Sloan added: “I am delighted everything has come together for this very positive community event.

“Hopefully this will be the beginning of many other projects in our local area.”

A Christmas fair starts at 2pm, with varied carols performed by the Carleton Primary School choir and Tullis Russell band.
