Ferry good but gaffer demanding a bit more

FERRY Yellow stayed top of the DDYFA U/19 President’s League with a hard-fought 5-3 win against Dundee West at Dawson Park.

However, manager Scott Brown has warned his side not to become complacent as they chase silverware on four fronts.

Brown was happy enough with the display against West but feels his team can perform better.

He said: “It was a difficult game and the pitch was sticky and muddy but the boys still dug out a result.

“So, overall, I’ve got to be happy.

“We like to play passing football but the conditions didn’t really allow for that and the score was 3-3 at half-time.

“We got the points and that is the main thing but I feel we can still play better.”

Adam Brown played a big part in the win, grabbing a hat-trick, but the manager also singled out a few others for special mention.

“Midfielder Andy Kelly played a big part and our back three of Lewis Finnie, Logan Irvine and Harry Dow, who was playing out of position, also did well,” added Brown.

“The win gives us a wee points cushion at the top but we have to be on it this Sunday against Monifieth at Riverview.

“They’ll be stuffy, I can guarantee that.

“I’ll be looking for us to get our noses in front early but if we allow them ti me to settle they’ll probably get their tails up, so we have to be careful.”

Meanwhile, Dryburgh U/15 progressed to the last 16 of the Scottish Cup after a terrific 2-1 extra-time win over Inverkeithing at South Road.

Dryburgh found themselves 1-0 down and a man down at the interval but dug deep and took the tie to extra time with a cracking strike from Brandon McGinnis late on.

The extra period was end-toend, until Ross McNaughton’s brilliant free-kick sailed into the top-left corner, with only minutes of the game remaining, sending the home sidelines into wild celebration.

The victory sets them up nicely for this Sunday’s fifth-round clash against Tynecastle at South Road.

And, with home advantage and a big support backing them, there is every reason to believe Burgh can reach the last eight.
