Pochettino: Harry has disappointed his suitors

-

HARRY Kane has disappointed top clubs all over Europe by signing a new contract at Tottenham, according to manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Kane’s new deal will run until 2022 and extends his stay at White Hart Lane by a further two years.

Spurs had never considered selling their talisman but uncertainty over negotiations had led to unwelcome speculation about his future.

Kane, however, remains committed to the club he first joined as an 11-yearold and Pochettino believes he could stay at Tottenham for the rest of his career.

“He could be like this type of player for us,” Pochettino said.

“He is English and one of the best strikers in the world and teams, not only in England but in Europe, have seen him and been following him and thinking there would be a possibility one day to take Harry.

“But Harry is very happy here and one more time has shown his commitment to the club and that is fantastic.”

It is understood Kane will collect a basic wage of around £80,000 a week to put him on a par with Hugo Lloris, the team’s captain and now joint-highest earner.

It ensures the deal does not break Tottenham’s strict wage structure but Kane will receive a number of performance-related bonuses which, if activated, will see him move close to the £120,000 a week mark.

“If you ask him he is sure that it is not about money,” Pochettino said.

“He loves Tottenham and he wants to stay here in this project and that is fantastic.

“But it is not about money and for that Harry is very special. He is special on the pitch and special off it.”

Tottenham face struggling Swansea tomorrow.
