Ray: No point in playing for draw

-

DUNDEE United boss Ray McKinnon is gearing up to have a go at Hibs tonight in the crunch match between the Championship’s top two.

Tannadice is set to be almost sold out for the contest and Ray is aiming to give t he big crowd something to shout about.

He said: “I’ve been asked if this will be a cagey game. But the mentality here is we want to win, so we’ll set up to do that.

“There’s no point in us playing for a draw, we’re at home, so let’s go and try to win the game.

“I think they’ll approach it the same, I can’t see a club like Hibs coming away from home and sitting in.

“So I think it will be a very open game.”

With j ust three points separating the two sides at the top of the league table, the clash has been billed as the Tangerines’ biggest match of the season so far.

But, for Ray, the overall progress of the club across the season is more important than j ust one result.

He added: “I’ve also been asked if this is a defining moment in the season but it’s not for me.

“It’s important in terms of getting another three points and keeping the momentum going.

“But this is a new team built over t he l ast six months so, no matter whether we win, lose or draw tonight, we’re moving in the right direction.

“We are not even halfway through the league yet, so there’s plenty of football to go after tonight.”
