Jack-knifed lorry leads to traffic chaos on A90

- BY HANNAH DOLMAN

The truck smashed through the central reservation of the A90, near Tealing, l eading to traffic being diverted down the old Forfar Road from the Tealing junction just after 5am.

There were still heavy traffic queues just before 10am.

Tailbacks as far as the Forfar Road junction in Dundee and past Petterden in the north saw traffic gridlocked.

Motorists reported delays of more than an hour, with one driver reporting being “stuck” on the Kingsway for more than 30 minutes.

The articulated lorry ended up jackknifed, across three lanes at about 5.25am.

An eyewitness said tailbacks quickly built up during rush-hour traffic, with the road barely passable.

He said: “Traffic quickly built up before police started diverting traffic down the old Forfar Road to miss the lorry blocking the road.

“Traffic was still being diverted at 9am. The lorry was blocking at least a lane of each carriageway.”

Stagecoach buses were also affected by the incident.

The A90 was not closed, although police advised that the outer lanes in both the northbound and southbound lanes had been shut.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland attended at the A90 near Tealing at about 5.25am this morning following a report of a road traffic collision involving a jack-knifed lorry.

“Motorists should expect delays, drive with care and if possible use alternative routes while the vehicle is recovered as both southbound and northbound lanes are restricted.”

The lorry driver was uninjured in the smash.

Bear Scotland is responsible for the traffic management and removal of the vehicle. Bear had been approached for comment but had not replied by time of going to press.

Meanwhile, police were called to a two-car collision in Perth which involved a red Toyota Aygo and a black Audi TT.

The accident happened at the junction of Barossa Street and Atholl Street yesterday at around 8pm.

One of the vehicles crashed into a lamppost.

The Toyota was moved on to the back of a recovery truck, although the Audi appeared to have come off worse with significant damage to its front.

The Audi seemed to have smashed into a wall.

A LORRY caused traffic delays of more than an hour and up to four miles of tailbacks in both directions after crashing today.
