Drivers face more disruption on A90

- BY LINdSEY HAmILTON

DRIVERS were hit by disruption on one of the major routes out of Dundee today — for the second morning rush hour in a row.

Motorists faced lengthy tailbacks on the A90 northbound, just to the north of the city, with journey times of at least 20 minutes through the affected area.

It followed major delays on the same stretch of the route yesterday when a lorry ploughed into the central reservation after jack-knifing.

Today’s congestion was caused by roadworks which are being carried out by Bear Scotland.

A spokeswoman said: “We have £336,000 resurfacing improvements taking place on the A90 between Tealing and Todhills junction which will improve the road surface at this location.

“The works are taking place overnight, however a lane closure is in place during the day for safety until the overnight works are complete.

“Although a temporary 30mph speed limit has been put in place while the works are completed, some cones were dislodged by motorists this morning, which has resulted in some traffic delays.

“We are now extending the speed restriction and implementing additional signage to encourage motorists to reduce speeds on the approach to the works site.

“We’d encourage motorists to adhere to any signs warning of temporary traffic management in place for the safety of road users and the workforce.” Drivers were warned that they faced queues back to Barns of Claverhouse, in the north of Dundee, due to the work.

One motorist who regularly travels on the road said that it had been a “nightmare” for two mornings now.

She said: “I got badly held up yesterday morning because of the lorry crash.

“I was trying to head north of the city and was stuck in a queue of traffic that stretched all the way from Dundee to Tealing.

“I thought today that it would be better and was surprised to have to join another queue of traffic today.

“This is causing a major headache for commuters heading out of Dundee first thing in the morning.”

Drivers were held up for more than two hours following yesterday’s crash, which also affected Kingsway traffic.
