City entrance should be ‘best it can be’

-

TWO leading Labour councillors have called on the city council to clean up one of Dundee’s main roads.

Labour leader Kevin Keenan said last month he felt graffiti and overgrown grass along Riverside Drive gave visitors an “unacceptable first impression” of the city.

Mr Keenan argued people entering Dundee via the Swallow Roundabout would be disheartened to see “buildings covered in graffiti” and “very overgrown grass”.

The graffiti has now been removed, but both Mr Keenan and West End councillor Richard McCready believe more must be done to ensure “the entrance to the city is the best it can be”.

Mr McCready said: “It is important that residents and visitors get a good first impression of Dundee and right now I do not think that Riverside Drive does that.

“I know the council is not responsible for all of these areas but I think it should take a leadership role in making sure that the entrance to our city is the best it can be.”

Echoing the calls, Mr Keenan said: “I am pleased to see that the graffiti has been cleaned.

“I think from the point of view of the ambassador route to the city, that is a step in the right direction.”

A city council spokesman said: “We are continuing to monitor the ambassador route and will take any appropriate action if necessary.”
