New Premier Inn to become part of Dundee’s Waterfront

- BY HANNAH DOLMAN

The Premier Inn chain is to add 109 new bedrooms to the existing 40-room hotel on Riverside Drive, to accommodate the visitors expected when the V&A museum opens in 2018.

In addition, the car park is to be reduced by 15 spaces, going from 113 to 98.

The project will include a new Beefeater restaurant with a full glass facade facing out across the River Tay.

Work on the new hotel will involve the demolition of existing structures to build a new four-storey block.

West End councillor Vari McDonald said: “It’s great to see the inward investment going on in Dundee at the moment.

“Premier Inn are looking to expand their number of rooms quite considerably, which shows where they think the city is going. It shows their confidence in the Waterfront regeneration and in Dundee.”

Fraser Macpherson, councillor for the West End ward, said he’s pleased to see interest from existing businesses in being a part of the Waterfront project.

“From this to the new Hilton, the interest is all positive and will only bring a boost to the area,” he said.

“The crucial thing is bringing business to the area and making the area look better will help with that.

“I note the Premier Inn is also increasing capacity, and with the Discovery and t he V&A on t he Waterfront, this is going to be well needed. It’s very good to hear that the work is now under way.”

The scheme has been designed by LMA Architects in Ayr and the building work is being carried out by Ogilvie Construction.

The plans are part of Premier Inn’s expansion drive, aiming to create at least 1,000 new bedrooms per annum across the UK.
