Mercury set to hit 12C in Dundee say forecasters
WINTER may be well and truly here — but Dundee is expected to enjoy doubledigit temperatures this week.
According to the Met Office, temperatures will sit somewhere between 10C and 13C tomorrow — up from yesterday’s high and low of 3C and 0C.
On Thursday, this will drop to between 7C and 11C, and on Friday to between 9C and 12C.
Met Office spokesman Oli Claydon said these temperatures are more likely to be experienced in October than during the build up to Christmas.
He said: “In essence, what’s happened is that the high pressure system protecting us at the moment is moving across Europe at the beginning of this week.
“Warmer air is set to come up from the south west and the temperatures will go up. The mean temperature for December is around 5.5C, whereas in October, it’s around 11C.
“It’s looking more autumnal — the temperatures are getting back to October levels.”
Areas further south are already enjoying the milder weather, which will head towards Tayside as today goes on.
However, the warmer climate will also bring with it an increased chance of rain.
Oli added: “There is a chance of more precipitation, especially i n Scotland.
“By the time we get to Wednesday afternoon there’s some precipitation that could be fairly heavy at times.
“There are going to be clear skies as well — by Thursday, there could be some clearer parts.”
Despite the higher air temperatures, the Met Office warned that a pick-up in the wind will mean the “feels like temperature” will be a few degrees colder.
Tomorrow, temperatures will reach 12C or 13C but it will feel colder.
“It’s the same on Thursday and Friday as well,” continued Oli.
“The winds will take the edge off of the temperature.”
Forecasters are expecting rainfall to increase from the weekend onwards.
A forecast issued by the Met Office said: “During the rest of the weekend and into the following week, further periods of wet and windy weather are expected to move across the UK.
“It will also be fairly mild initially but temperatures are likely to return closer to normal with an increasing risk of overnight frost.”
