ROUND-UP Indoor fixture has the alarm bells ringing

THE National Indoor Hockey programme got under way at the weekend.

The men’s Divisions Two and Three were on Saturday at the Bell’s Halls in Perth and, on Sunday, it was the ladies Division Two at Bell’s and Division 3 at Forthbank.

As to be expected, there was a marked improvemen­t in the ‘outdoor’ conditions!

There were, however, a few surprises and not least Harris FP’s 21-4 win over a depleted Stepps team in Division Three in the Coaching Hall.

ln the Main Hall, the first half of the Menzieshil­l II’s game against Edinburgh University was interrupte­d by a ‘fire alarm’ with ’Hill leading 3-1.

After half-an-hour the game was resumed with the Dundee side winning 4-3.

That added to their 6-5 win over Perthshire in the opening game of the season.

Menzieshil­l II had a third game, and a 6-3 win over Granite City Wanderers gives them a three-point lead over MJV Dundee Wanderers and Watsonians.

Wanderers disposed of Falkirk 10-5 and Dunfermlin­e 9-5, with Tom Cols netting four against Dunfermlin­e and Fergus Sandison likewise against Falkirk.

Perthshire had a hat-trick from Michael Czub in their 4-3 win over Granite City, who beat Dunfermlin­e by 5-2.

In Division Three, Harris FP had Gavin Martin and Greg Whittet on target in the 7-5 win over Stepps.

Earlier, Harris had lost 11-6 to Aberdeen GSFP.

Monarchs lost 6-2 to Clydesdale II and 7-5 to Kelburne II, while Dundee Wanderers II had wins over Stepps (8-2) and Clydesdale (6-3) and share the lead with Kelburne II.

On Sunday, in the Ladies Division Two at Bell’s, scores included Dundee Wanderers II 10 Aberdeen 0, Hillhead 6 Wanderers II 1, Kelburne II 6 Wanderers II 2, Grove II 4 Watsonians 1, Grove II 2 Aberdeen 2.

Kelburne beat Western II 4-2 and top the table.

In Division Three, Perthshire lost 4-1 to Granite CW.

In the Midland Ladies League Cup, the scores were — Pool A — St Andrews Univ IV 1 Kinross II 2, Grove III 1 Monarchs and Perthshire II 6. Pool B — Blairgowri­e 2 Brechin Thistle 1, St Andrews Univ III 0 Dundee Wanderers II 2.

Scores in the Midland men’s Outdoor Division One on Saturday were — Dundee Univ II 2 Harris FP II 1, Wanderers III 5 Menzieshil­l III 1, Perthshire II 14 Wanderers IV 0, Monarchs II 1 Madras 5.

Menzieshil­l IV v Wanderers II was off due to the National Leagues Indoor.

Division Two on Sunday was also cancelled due to the Midland Indoor Division Three scheduled for the same day, where the scores were — Wanderers VI 4 Wanderers V 4, Harris III 3 Perthshire II 2, Menzieshil­l IV 6 Wanderers VII 2, Perthshire II 6 Wanderers IV 1.

Midland Men’s Indoor Division Two scores on Thursday evening at t he Douglas Sports Centre were — Menzieshil­l IV 3 Wanderers III 5, Monarchs II 4 Harris II 5, Menzieshil­l III 4 Menzieshil­l IV 6.

This Thursday Division One is back in action at the Douglas Sports Centre with Inverleith v Menzieshil­l II (8.15pm), followed by Harris v Wanderers and Inverleith v Monarchs.

On Sunday, Division Three is again from 12.30-3.30pm at the Douglas Sports Centre. Teams in action are Menzieshil­l V and VI, Wanderers V and VII, Harris III and Monarchs III.

The Midland Ladies Indoor results last Tuesday were — Wanderers III 1 Grove 6, Kinross 4 Monarchs 0, Wanderers 11 St Andrews Univ 1.

Tonight games (from 7pm) are — Strathalla­n v Wanderers II, Kinross v Wanderers III, Grove v Wanderers.

The current top three are Kinross, Wanderers II and Grove. After tonight, the league takes a break until January 10.
