‘Legion’s getting stronger’

-

A SPOKESMAN for the R oya l B r i t i s h L e g i o n S c o t l a n d ’s M o n t r o s e branch has refuted rumours that it is set to close.

In January t he club announced it was i n trouble as only 15 people had t urned out t o its annual general meeting, out of a membership of 200.

At the time, club spokesman Ian Robb warned that unless there was a greater attendance at the rescheduled meeting in February then it would have to close its doors until a new committee could be appointed.

However, Mr Robb now wants to address rumours that the club i s on the brink of closure, saying it is getting “stronger each month”.

He said: “The question which lies upon our minds is what pleasure do people get from spreading malicious rumours that have absolutely no base for what they say?

“It appears to be something that has persisted over the past year. Let us put the record straight, there is absolutely no way that t he Royal British Legion Scotland Montrose branch and club has any intention of closing.

“We have spent a l ot of time and money on ensuring the branch grows with new members, organising activities and social events that have been well supported by t he younger members of our community.

“We are getting stronger every month.

“If people want to show their support, we are open for membership renewal.”
