Ladies knock wind out of Jets

-

DUNDEE’S Ladies volleyball side produced a sparkling performance at Craigie High School last Saturday with an impressive 3-0 win over Edinburgh Jets.

This Scottish Cup third-round tie started with both sides trading points until Hannah Lawrie scored with a quick attack to take an 8-6 lead.

She then stepped up to the service line and helped win a run of five points with service aces, a score block from Lana Edgar and a hit from Lucy Wishart.

This established the pattern as Dundee scored freely, with Sarah Driscoll and Lucy Wishart both scoring from the wings of the court.

Dundee’s serve pressure was a decisive factor as they won the set 25/12.

Jets took an early 5-2 lead in the second set but Driscoll won the service back with a smart hit and then served two ‘aces’.

The Jets put up a spirited resistance to stay in touch with the score but Natasha Melville scored four points, Lucy Wishart three before Driscoll again showed her power with big scores to help win the set 25-17.

Jets’ resistance was broken and the third set allowed the home side to power their way to victory.

Lawrie and Edgar both scored with their quick attacks in the middle of the net and the outside hitters proved unstoppable.

The Dundee attack scored 18 of the 25 points as they finished off the game winning 25-9 to secure their place in round four.

Both men and women are in league action tomorrow away from home.

The ladies travel to Troon to take on Jets again and league leaders Caledonia West in League 1.

The men complete their pre-Christmas schedule against NUVOC, in Edinburgh.

They will line up against former star player Robbie Binnie.
