Kelly and Stricker leading at Shootout in Florida

-

JERRY Kelly and Steve Stricker are the leaders after the first round of the 2016 Frank Templeton Shootout in Florida.

Kelly and Stricker teamed up to fire a 16-under-par 56 in the ‘Scramble’ — where both players hit from the best position of the previous shot.

That gave them a one-shot lead over Harris English and Matt Kuchar, who are on 15 under, with Charles Howell III and Rory Sabbiatini one further back.

British pair Luke Donald and Russell Knox are one of three teams on 12 under.

RAFA Cabrera Bello continued his impressive 2016 form as he opened up a one-shot lead after the first round of the UBS Hong Kong Open.

The Spaniard, who made his Ryder Cup debut this year, has not missed a single cut and finished eighth in the Race to Dubai.

And Cabrera Bello’s hot streak showed no signs of stopping, the 32-year-old carding a six-under par 64 to top the leaderboard.

Having already managed four birdies at Hong Kong Golf Club, he finished his first 18 holes in style with a stunning eagle on the 10th, pitching his approach past the hole and spinning it back in.

He said: “That was nice. I had perfect distance, hit a really good shot and was surprised to see it go in. But I had never really finished a round like that and it felt nice.

“I played really smart, made very little mistakes. I hit every green, didn’t get myself in trouble off the tee. I was in control of the round all day and putted nicely too, so it was nice work.”

Sebastien Gros also impressed on his debut at this venue, hitting a five-under par 65 to close the gap on Cabrera Bello.

Defending champion Justin Rose carded a level-par 70, while fellow Englishmen Ian Poulter and Danny Willett sit on two under.
