Bid to find family of late pensioner

- BY ADAM HILL

Georgina Dunn left the city for London before later living in Rotherham.

It is understood that she had a son and two brothers in the city.

The 79-year-old had latterly been living in White Rose House sheltered accommodation and had spent a week in hospital before her death at Rotherham General Hospital.

Now, health officials are trying to find Georgina’s relatives in Dundee after she told the manager of her sheltered housing complex that she had relations in the city.

Little is known about Georgina and no photos are known to exist of her, although she was known to be a practicing Catholic.

Georgina is also thought to have become homeless for a period while living i n London and Rotherham, following her departure from the city 40 years ago. Kim Marsh, bereavement officer for Rotherham General Hospital, said she had launched the appeal in the hope of tracing friends or family before Georgina is laid to rest.

She said: “Georgina died in the hospital at the beginning of November but there was no next of kin.

“We were informed that she had relatives in Dundee and we didn’t want them to miss out on the chance to be at her funeral.

“We are not expecting someone to come forward and pay for the service — it is just so that they can make arrangements to pay their respects and to say their last farewells to her.”

Kim said that the hospital’s policy was to wait 28 days after the appeal to begin planning for a funeral.

She added: “We always try to make sure that we give people as much time as possible to make arrangements before going ahead with the service.”

Shelley Hawsan, warden of White Rose House, said that Georgina had been a resident at the sheltered housing complex for eight years prior to her death.

She said: “I knew Georgina well from the time she spent staying here — it is a shame that she is gone.

“It has been a long time since she had seen her family and it would be good if they got the chance to say their goodbyes.”

Any inquiries relating to Georgina’s funeral can be directed to the bereavement office at Rotherham General Hospital on 01709 42446.

AN appeal has been launched to find the family of a Dundee woman who died.
