Thieves who targeted firm caught on CCTV

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

A DUNDEE businessman has branded two would-be thieves who broke into his premises as “scum”.

Scottish Blue Auto Care on Douglas Road was targeted by thieves yesterday.

The firm and neighbouring Dundee Taxis are both owned by 53-year-old businessman George Scullion.

CCTV caught two intruders entering the grounds of the garage before making off on foot when a security light was activated.

Although the thieves left emptyhanded, Mr Scullion said a recent spate of break-ins was worrying.

He said: “The guys have been caught on camera.

“They really got the fright of their lives when the security lights came on.

“There were still staff in the control room of the taxi offices and the intruders ran off before actually stealing anything.

“They gained access through a fence just after 1am on Sunday morning.

“Staff called the police straight away.

“There were at least six police vehicles here within a matter of minutes and officers were scouring the area.”

Mr Scullion, whose businesses have been based on Douglas Road for the last three-and-half-years, believes the two men caught on camera were local to the area.

He said: “The two guys on camera look like they are in their early twenties.

“They made off into the neighbouring area but they couldn’t be found.

“The police officers were absolutely tremendous when they arrived.

“On the back of this incident and other events which have happened around here, it’s worrying.

“The area has generally been quiet but there was an incident around a-year-and-half ago i n which British Telecom vehicles were targeted.

“These people are the scum of the earth.

“They have no idea that their actions could have impacted on peoples livelihoods.

“They need to grow-up and do something better with their lives instead of this.

“The staff within the offices were naturally shaken as a result of the break-in.

“We already have quite a state-of the-art security system but we will be looking to make further improvements to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

“I have been left shocked by the events — the guys looked only looked like they were about five feet tall.

“We are looking over the CCTV footage just now and will be liaising with the police to help catch these guys.

“Anyone who wants to target someone’s livelihood in this way is just scum.”
