Retailer says sorry as staff caught up in parking row
A MAJOR retailer has apologised after a delivery lorry blocked a man into a disabled parking space in Dundee.
Ryan Rice, 31, was left “boiling with rage” after the incident, which saw a Knowhow lorry — part of Currys PC World — park across the space his car was in.
Ryan had been preparing to take his seven-year-old son, also Ryan, who has muscular dystrophy, to an important hospital appointment but couldn’t move while a delivery was made nearby.
The incident, which happened outside flats in the Hilltown, was captured on video.
Ryan, a soldier, said: “I was getting my son and daughter in the car when the van blocked us in so he could get close to the entrance way. I got straight out to ask him to quickly move so we could be away.
“We were going to Ninewells for an appointment we’d been waiting months for — and we missed it because of a complete lack of common courtesy.”
The delivery staff allegedly used foul language to tell Ryan he would have to wait, while they unloaded and delivered a washing machine to a resident at Bonnethill Court.
Ryan said he was kept waiting about 30 minutes.
He said: “We had an appointment to get things to help Ryan’s quality of life.
“Because we missed it, the next available appointment is February 4.
“I rang customer service and got told it wasn’t their concern, that Knowhow drivers were not the responsibility of Currys.
“But they are, they’re the ones that deliver for them. It made me very angry to be told that.”
A Currys PC World spokeswoman said: “We are disappointed to hear the report that one of our drivers was parked in an unsuitable place and we are very sorry this caused problems for a member of public.
“We always strive to offer the best service but unfortunately on this occasion this delivery was unsatisfactory.
“We want to assure customers that this incident will be fully investigated.
“At this time of year, we have up to 800 lorries each day delivering products to our customers.
“We hope this isolated incident does not overshadow the good work that our delivery drivers do each day.”
