Clark is saint then sinner for Broughty

- BY JUNICUS

FOR the second week running, Broughty Athletic had to come from behind to earn a Super League point, this time in Perth where they shared the spoils with Jeanfield in a 1-1 draw.

Jeanfield had the better of the first half and took a deserved lead through Robbie Holden three minutes from half-time.

The Perth side continued to look the more dangerous in the early stages of the second half but the Fed grabbed an equaliser in 70 minutes courtesy of a leftfoot shot from Brian Clark.

Clark then blotted his copybook when he picked up a second yellow card and was sent off.

Broughty were lucky to escape with a point in a match mostly dominated by the hosts, who will be disappointed they didn’t pick up all three points.

Broughty have announced Matty Adam has left the club to concentrate on his studies in teaching.

However, the Fed have wasted no time in finding a replacement after signing striker Kevin Buchan from Cove Rangers on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Buchan, who spent a short spell at Lochee United before signing, was with Broughty last season and was a prolific scorer for the Fed prior to signing for Cove.

Lochee United will go i nto the mid-season break on a bit of a low after another lacklustre performance saw them suffer their third-successive defeat against Dundonald.

The Fifers were no team of world beaters but, on the day, showed more desire than George Shields’ men and fully deserved their 2-0 victory.

Carnoustie’s eight-game unbeaten run was ended by bogey side Broxburn, who, for the second time this season, proved too good for the Gowfers.

They were 6-1 winners when they met earlier in the season and this time they ran out comfortable 3-0 victors thanks to strikes from Alexander Miller, Ross Nimmo and Craig Purves.
