Police dig up garden in ‘double murder’ probe

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

FORENSICS officers from Police Scotland have been seen digging up a garden close to the house of a man accused of a double murder in Dundee.

Holly Alexander, 37, and Ronald Kidd, 40, were found dead in a flat in the city’s Rosefield Street on December 11.

Krzysztof Gadecki, 37, who lives on Benvie Road, is accused of murdering the pair by stabbing them at some point between December 8 and the day their bodies were discovered.

Police officers wearing white suits have been spotted in a back garden on Benvie Road as part of the ongoing investigation into the deaths.

A police spokeswoman did not confirm the specific nature of the activity but said: “Police Scotland is continuing with inquiries in relation to the alleged murders which happened at Rosefield Street, Dundee.”

There has been regular police activity in the Benvie Road area since the bodies of Mrs Alexander and Mr Kidd were found.

In the days afterwards, a police car was stationed on the street on a couple of occasions.

One man who lives in a flat on Benvie Street, who asked not to be named, said there were as many as five forensics officers combing the area.

He said the officers had various items of equipment with them as they scoured the area.

He said: “I was certainly shocked to see officers in the garden. They had a host of tools with them including three-prong spikes, sticks, shovels and possibly a metal detector.

“The staff who were involved in the search were there for well over an hour.”

The man said that although the presence of police had become a common sight in recent days, the garden search came as a “surprise” to residents.

He added: “The vast majority of people in the block are aware of the current situation and the reasons officers have been in attendance.

“Although there has been a police presence in the area over the last few days I was still surprised to see this going on.

“It certainly wasn’t the first thing I expected to see going on in the garden today.”

An image taken of the officers at the scene appeared to show them inspecting soil, having dug up an area of grass in the garden.

The onlooker said: “I don’t know what exactly they were looking for.

“They checked a few areas of the garden space.

“They were wearing masks and blue rubber gloves.”

Last week, Mrs Alexander’s husband Forrest told the Tele she was an “amazing human being” and a “great mother”.
