Does airport need some investment?

-

I CAN’T believe the Flybe Amsterdam flight has had the plug pulled on it.

It opened with such fanfare and promise just a short time ago.

And the planes were full — proving there is a demand for flights out of Dundee.

The article said the operators need better radar equipment at the airport to be able to fly from there.

Why doesn’t Holyrood, or the council, look at the cost of investing in this?

It’s got to be worthwhile in the long run to get this up-and-coming city on the international flight path.

Just do it.

I’M saddened to hear Dundee is losing its scheduled direct flights to Amsterdam.

It’s not the first time the city airport has tried and failed to open itself up to the European mainland.

Remember Esbjerg on the west coast of Denmark around 30 years ago? That one never quite caught on. Another big loss was the announcement in November that Ramsay Travel’s chartered flights to the Channel Islands were being axed.

So now local businessmen, businesswomen and holidaymakers have more than an hour’s travelling to reach the nearest airport.

Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness have one and Glasgow is served by two — one in Paisley, the other a short hop down the M77 at Prestwick.

Isn’t it about time the Scottish Government or local authorities stepped in and helped put the City of Discovery back on air travellers’ maps?

R.B., Lochee.
