Festive work ahead for Saints players

-

ST ANDREWS United boss Craig Morrison wants to draw a line under his side’s poor form that has left them hovering just above the drop zone in the Premier League.

Relegated last season, and without a league win since August, Morrison took over last month.

And, despite picking up just one point from the four games he has overseen, he firmly believes he has the tools to turn things round.

Not that he is under-estimating the size of the task.

He said: “We undoubtedly have a big job on our hands.

“The major hurdle we have to overcome is the players’ lack of self belief and confidence.

“That is something we are working hard on in training during the festive break.

“Apart from the disappointing performance in our last game against Armadale, when we lacked desire and energy, I saw enough in the matches with Forfar West End and Bathgate and to convince me we have the ability to climb the table.

“Only the lack of a cutting edge prevented us taking something from both those games and finishing is an area in which we’ll be paying special attention at training.”

Since coming in, the Barnetts Park boss has been involved in one major piece of transfer business, bringing in Scott Mayne, Rhory Mooney, Ben Anthony and Scott Orrock from his former club Dundonald Bluebell, with Craig Wedderburn and Barry Sibanda going in the opposite direction.

While not ruling out further moves in the transfer market, Morrison will only be addressing specific areas within the squad that he feels need strengthening.

ALTHOUGH their are no league or cup fixtures scheduled over the festive break, Tayport will be keeping themselves in trim as they’ve been invited to participate in a tournament hosted by Super League leaders Kelty Hearts.

Also featuring will be Kennoway and Thornton.

The action starts tomorrow when Tayport meet Kennoway Star Hearts (4.30pm) followed by Kelty Hearts against Thornton Hibs (7.45pm).

Thursday sees the third/ fourth-place game at 4.30pm, with the final starting at 7.45pm.
