Cathro’s message to Hearts — ‘work, work, work’

-

HEARTS head coach Ian Cathro hopes Friday night’s capitulation to Dundee at Dens Park will spark more “fight and togetherness” in his side.

After a defeat at Rangers and a home draw with Partick Thistle, Cathro looked to be on his way to his first victory since taking over from Robbie Neilson after goals from Jamie Walker and Callum Paterson saw his side leading 2-0 just after the break.

However, after Dark Blues’ skipper Darren O’Dea quickly pulled a goal back, the visitors unravelled as Dundee substitute Paul McGowan levelled before Marcus Haber headed in a dramatic winner in the third minute of added time.

Ahead of the visit of Kilmarnock to Tynecastle tomorrow night, Cathro was asked how he would get his team back up after their Dundee despair.

He said: “Every time you take a slap in the face it gets a bit more difficult but that has got to prompt more fight and togetherness.

“We have had to be honest with ourselves and the good thing about football is that there’s always tomorrow.

“You have conversations when you win and when you lose. Everyone has to take another step up.

“We have go work, work, work and go out and get the win.”

The former Newcastle assistant insists confidence at the Edinburgh club, who sit fourth in the table after four games without a win, is not an issue. He said: “I don’t see a team lacking confidence, I see situations in the game where it maybe starts to swing against us a little bit and more of us need to step up.”
