Toddler rushed to hospital after falling into pond

A TODDLER was rushed to hospital after falling into a Perthshire pond.

A major emergency response swung into action after the 15-month-old boy was discovered and plucked from the freezing water at a farm near Glenalmond.

An air ambulance was sent from Scone airport but it was decided to take the youngster to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee by road, i n an ambulance.

It is understood the child fell into a garden pond just after 9am.

Described as being “stable”, it is thought he escaped with no major injuries despite his ordeal but has been kept in hospital as a precaution.

A spokesman f or t he Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed t he injuries suffered were not life threatenin­g and described the major response to the initial alert.

“A local ambulance c r ew, Tay s i d e Tr a u m a Team, Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance, and an ambulance manager all raced t o t he scene at a p p rox i m a t e ly 9 . 1 0 a m yesterday.

“Our emergency call handler provided life-saving instructio­ns over the phone.

“We then conveyed a young child to D u n d e e ’s N i n e w e l l s Hospital in a stable condition.”

A spokeswoma­n for Police Scotland confirmed the incident, saying: “Police Scotland attended at a farm in Glenalmond, Per thshire, f ollowing a report of concern for a 15-month-old child that had fallen into a pond at about 9.10am.”

The emergency services declined to provide exact details on where the accident happened.

Businesses in the Glenalmond and Methven area were unable to shed any more light on t he incident.

“I heard a helicopter going over but am not sure if it landed or not,” said one Methven resident.
