Pupils express their gratitude

-

SOME Christmas cheer has been spread in St Andrews after more than 200 children said a special thank you to Fife Council and St Andrews University for finding a suitable site for the new Madras College.

After yet another difficult year which has seen the £40 million school project repeatedly stall, local families have been heaving a sigh of relief after it emerged that renewed talks between the local authority and the university have apparently paid dividends.

Moves to site the replacement Madras on university land at Langlands are now progressing, with any deal likely to ensure that the existing South Street building continues to be an important focus for education in Fife.

That prompted many local youngsters to write personal messages to the council and the university to express their gratitude that a breakthrough has been made.

Some of those messages have been hung on a Christmas tree presented by some of the children involved to senior members of the university and Fife Council representatives.

Jenni Horn, a supporter of campaign group Parent Voice, said: “It was welcome news that the Langlands site could be considered in the process of finding a new site for Madras College.

“We wanted to show genuine thanks to the parties involved and a Christmas tree with personal messages seemed a befitting and fun way for t he children to express their own appreciation.”
