Tourney keeps ’Port in shape over break

-

TAYPORT could not prevent hosts Kelty Hearts from winning their festive tournament last Thursday.

Hearts opened the scoring in the fourth minute through Stuart Cargill, and never looked back.

Cargill doubled the hosts’ advantage midway through the half and Kelty added No 3 from the spot, on the stroke of half-time, courtesy of Steve Husband.

’Port’s Duncan Bruce made a string of saves during the first half but was forced off injured at half-time.

Ten minutes into the second half, replacement Gavin Sorley was beaten by a cracking strike by Husband and that counter proved to be the final goal of the evening.

Earlier in the week, in the semi-final, Tayport came from two goals behind to beat Kennoway Star Hearts 5-4

Alan Tulleth grabbed a hat-trick with Fraser Anderson and Grant Mowatt also on the mark.

Kelty beat Thornton Hibs 4-3 in the other semi.

The 3rd/4th place game between Kennoway Star Hearts and Thornton Hibs wasn’t played.

Despite the final defeat, the competition proved a worthwhile exercise for John Ovenstone’s ’Port.

The manager will now be hoping they can hit the ground running when Premier League hostilities resume this weekend, with Bathgate Thistle the visitors to The Canniepairt.
